Information about how to get around the island of Cyprus By far the best way to get around in Cyprus is by car. The other alternatives are either by private taxi, shared taxi or by bus. Cyprus does not have a rail or metro system.
Renting a car in Cyprus is relatively inexpensive, and if you are flying in, you can pick up a rental car on your arrival at either Larnaca or Paphos airports. If you are traveling to Cyprus during high season, it is recommended that you pre book your hired car. 
Cyprus Taxis There are 2 types of taxi services in Cyprus. The private taxi that we all know about, taxis you can flag down in a street or call up to have them pick you up from your home or hotel and take you anywhere you wish. In Cyprus there are also line taxis or shared taxis that run, on a regular pre arranged schedule during the day, between the main areas and towns. These are a lot less expensive than private taxis. Services run daily from around 7.00 am till about 6.00 pm at approximately a half hourly basis. There are no shared taxis running from either Larnaca or Paphos airports, even though there are some services to Larnaca and Paphos airports. With Cyprus shared taxis, basically you call to book space on the shared taxi, they will then pick you up from your place and drop you off anywhere within the town limits of your destination town.
